What Is It?
Grey Barytes Powder is the naturally occurring mineral form of barium sulphate (BaSO4) in its grey to light grey colour form. It is one of the most widely used industrial minerals in the world, valued for its exceptionally high specific gravity, chemical inertness, and excellent filler properties. SBMPM’s Grey Barytes Powder is processed from high-purity barytes ore sourced directly from the Kadapa mining region, one of India’s richest barytes deposits.
The product is micronised using a controlled multi-stage process involving sorting, cleaning, vibrating, air classification through an Impax pulveriser and blower machine, followed by filtration and packaging. This ensures precise particle size distribution across a range of 100 to 500 US mesh, with consistent BaSO4 purity levels ranging from 60% to 95% depending on the grade selected.
SBMPM’s Grey Barytes Powder is produced in seven standard grades — SBMPM-G20 through SBMPM-G80 — each calibrated to a specific range of specific gravity (3.5 to 4.25 g/cc) and BaSO4 content. Air-floated grey barytes powder is also available for applications requiring enhanced flowability and finer classification.
Who Is It For?
Grey Barytes Powder is primarily used by industries that require a high-density, chemically stable mineral filler or weighting agent. Key user segments include:
- Oil and gas drilling contractors who use barytes as the primary weighting agent in drilling mud
- Paint and coatings manufacturers who need an inert extender with good particle distribution
- Rubber product manufacturers who need a filler with controlled abrasiveness and good compounding properties
- Friction material producers for brake pads, clutch linings, and industrial braking systems
- Adhesive and sealant formulators who need density and chemical stability
- Plastics and thermoset compound manufacturers
Key Benefits
High Specific Gravity: With specific gravity values up to 4.25 g/cc, SBMPM grey barytes provides the density performance needed for oil-well drilling operations and heavy-duty industrial applications.
Controlled BaSO4 Purity: BaSO4 content of up to 95% ensures reliable performance across demanding industrial formulations where purity directly affects product quality.
Low SiO2 and Fe2O3 Content: Minimised silica and iron oxide content reduces abrasiveness and protects processing equipment, extending machinery life for our clients.
Excellent Particle Distribution: Precise particle size distribution from 100 to 500 US mesh, with a maximum of 0.5% retained on any single mesh size, ensures consistent dispersion in end-use applications.
Chemical Inertness: Grey barytes is stable in contact with water, acids, and alkalis, making it compatible with a wide range of chemical environments and formulation bases.
Low Oil Absorption: Reduced oil demand in paint and coating formulations translates to better economics and improved film properties.
Heat and Light Resistance: Grey barytes provides thermal stability and light fastness, making it suitable for high-temperature and outdoor applications.
Consistent Moisture Control: Moisture content is maintained at 0.1% to 1% across all grades, ensuring product stability and shelf life during transport and storage.
Flexible Packaging: Available in 25 kg and 50 kg HDPE bags, 1,000 kg and 1,500 kg jumbo bags, or in bulk for large-volume buyers.
Free Samples Available: SBMPM provides free grey barytes powder samples for evaluation. Contact us with your grade requirement and we will dispatch a sample for testing.
