Off-white Barytes Powder (H-series)

What Is It?

Off-White Barytes Powder is the mineral form of barium sulphate in an off-white to slightly coloured form. It is produced by processing barytes ore with a higher degree of cleaning and classification than grey grades, resulting in a lighter appearance while retaining the high specific gravity and chemical properties characteristic of high-quality barytes.

SBMPM’s Off-White Barytes Powder range — the H-Series — comprises seven grades from SBMPM-H10 to SBMPM-H70, with specific gravity values ranging from 3.50 to 4.30 g/cc and BaSO4 purity from 70% to 95%. The product features a controlled silica content (3% to 15% depending on grade), pH maintained at 7.0–12, and very low moisture (0.5%–1%). Particle size is standardised at 400 and 500 mesh with a maximum of 0.5% retained on either screen.

This product line is a versatile choice for industrial applications where a lighter colour than grey is preferred, but the high brightness of white barytes is not required. It represents an excellent balance of performance and value.

Who Is It For?

Off-white barytes is suitable for a wide range of industrial buyers including:

  • Industrial paint and coating manufacturers who need an extender with controlled colour and high density
  • Marine coating formulators where density and chemical resistance are priorities
  • Rubber compound manufacturers who require consistent filler properties
  • Friction and brake material manufacturers
  • Adhesive, sealant, and putty manufacturers in the construction and automotive sectors
  • Plastic and thermoplastic compound producers

Key Benefits

Seven Distinct Grades: The H-Series covers a wide range of specific gravity (3.50 to 4.30 g/cc) and BaSO4 content (70% to 95%), giving buyers the flexibility to select the exact performance profile their application requires.

Controlled Silica Levels: Silica content is tracked and disclosed for each grade (ranging from 3% to 15%), allowing formulators to account for abrasiveness and chemical interactions in their process.

Consistent pH Range: All H-Series grades maintain a pH of 7.0 to 12, ensuring compatibility with most polymer, rubber, and paint formulation systems.

Low Moisture Content: Maximum moisture content of 0.5%–1% ensures the product remains free-flowing and does not clump during storage or transport.

Fine Particle Size: Standard 400 and 500 mesh particle sizes with tight distribution control ensure smooth, homogeneous dispersion in end-use formulations.

Chemical Stability: Off-white barytes is chemically inert to water, dilute acids, and alkalis, making it safe and reliable in a wide range of chemical environments.

Good Filler Performance: Low oil absorption, high density, and fine particle size combine to deliver excellent filler performance in terms of improved stiffness, abrasion resistance, and dimensional stability in end products.

Packaging Flexibility: Available in 25 kg HDPE bags, 50 kg HDPE bags, 1,000 kg jumbo bags, and 1,500 kg jumbo bags to suit orders of all sizes.
